Textile Production of Pakistani Textile Industry

Textile Production of Pakistani Textile Industry

Textile industry is a major part of the fashion industry. It includes the production of yarn, cloth, clothing, and other fashion accessories. The textile industry is based on the conversion of fibre into yarn, yarn into fabric, and the further conversion of fabric into clothing.

The textile industry began in the Middle East. Over the centuries, it spread to India, China and Pakistan, where weaving, dyeing and printing developed into sophisticated industries. By the 16th century, Europeans had begun to develop their own textile manufacturing processes, and by the 19th century, textiles became a major industry in Western Europe and the United States.

Pakistan textile industry is the top largest industrial sector of the country. The industry has the potential to reach a size of $60 billion by year 2015. Pakistan’s textile industry contributes 8.5% of Pakistan’s GDP. Pakistan’s textile industry exports $17.0 billion worth of products. Despite of the pandemic, Pakistan’s textile sector experienced a significant increase in exports over the previous year. According to the recent research, Pakistan’s textiles industry exports have reached a new high of $1.32 billion as compared to last year’s export-value of $1.19 billion.

In the face of challenges, Pakistan textile mills have proved to be resilient. Due to the increasing demand of finished products, textile companies are strengthening their production facilities and are recruiting more manpower. Allied sectors in the textiles industry are also benefiting because of a boost in demand.

Production

The process of textile production is a long one, and the process of textile production involves many steps. Each step involves a lot of processes, and each process has its own steps. Textiles are usually made from cotton, silk, or wool, in a number of different ways, but the key process is spinning. Spinning is the twisting together of the fibers to make yarn and then twisting the yarn to make the cloth.

The raw material required in making cloth is cotton, wool, and flax. Cotton is a fiber that comes from a soft, fluffy seed pod on the cotton plant. Wool is a fiber that comes from the hair of sheep, goats, llamas, alpacas, and other animals. Flax is a fiber that comes from the stalk of the flax plant. It is also called Linen. The three fibers are spun into yarns. The yarns are woven into cloth. Amongst all, cotton is considered one of the most widely used natural fibers for clothing.

Cotton is one of the most commonly used materials in the textile industry due to its high absorbency rate, ability to hold shape, comfort, durability, and breathability. It is one of the most natural and purest fibres, and is used in a variety of products. It is obtained from the seeds of the cotton plant. Its characteristics also depend on the quality of the cotton, which determines its grade. The quality of cotton is decided based on the length of the fibres, the percentage of the lint content, the maturity of the plant, and the area of origin. The texture of cotton is smooth, fine, and flat. It is smooth and has a glossy appearance.

The process of textile manufacturing includes spinning, weaving, knitting, processing, and so on.

Spinning

The Spinning process is a process in which fibres are drawn out and twisted together into a yarn or thread. This is done through a complex processes and by a machine called a spinner or a spinning machine, which works on the same principle as a spinning wheel. These processes are blending, carding, combing, gilling, drawing, roving, spinning, winding, assembly winding, twisting, steaming.

Weaving

Weaving is a method of textile production in which two distinct sets of yarns or threads are interlaced at right angles to form a fabric or cloth. The longitudinal threads are called the warp and the cross threads are called the weft or filling. In weaving, textiles are formed by two sets of interlaced threads that are beaten or woven together. The two sets of threads are called the warp and weft or woof. The warp threads are attached to a loom and extend in one direction. The weft threads are attached to a second loom that traverses (or weaves) in the opposite direction to the warp threads.

Knitting

Knitting is a crafting technique in which two or more loops of yarn, thread, or fiber are connected by knitting needles or other implements to create a fabric or “cloth”. It creates multiple loops of yarn, called stitches, in a line or tube, using a knitting needle or knitting egg. Each stitch is a horizontal line of loops, and the resulting fabric may be a tube, a flat rectangle, or a flat square, depending on the knitting technique. The most common method of knitting is called “garter stitch” or “stockinette stitch” because, when viewed from the right side, the stitches look like the letter “V” for a flat fabric and the letter “U” for a circular tube.

Dying & Printing

The dying and printing process of textile provides a wide range of colors, different effects and patterns to give an attractive look to the fabric. People have used dying and printing in the textile industry since the beginning of time. Both natural and synthetic dyes are used in the process. Dyeing is a large and complex field in which a diversity of processes are used to change the color of natural fibers.

Finishing

While spinning and weaving are important processes, the finishing process is also a very important part of the textile industry, because it is the final process that adds the value to the product. Fabric finishing is the application of an additional surface treatment to fabric after it is woven or knitted, or to the surface of a woven or knitted fabric while it is being manufactured. Its purpose is to make the fabric more useful or more appealing, or to improve its properties. In the final process, the fabric is washed, ironed, pressed and stabilized.

Designing

Textile design is a form of art that uses fabrics to make clothing. The idea is to create wearable pieces of art. The process of designing involves creating both a sketch of the actual design and a sketch of the pattern for the fabric.  Designers may come up with ideas based on trends seen in fashion or interior design, or they may want to create a unique design to fill a need. At this stage, a designer will create a quick sketch of the idea, which may be turned into a digital mock-up using a program like CAD, Photoshop or Illustrator. This mock-up is projected onto a mannequin and the designer adjusts the mock-up as necessary to achieve the desired fit.
